How to install office 97 update

I didn't have enough space on jmy C drive for the latest service pak for XP
so I moved a bunch of files, including most of Office 97. Some files wouldn't
move, however, so when I tried to move them back later, I couldn't do it in
mass. So I decided to reinstall. First I uninstalled Office, then put in my
CD and tried to re-install. The wizard told me that it was searching for
evidence of a previous installation (since it is an upgrade). It couldn't
find what it was looking for (according to a tiny message box), but went
ahead and installed on my E drive for me. However, when I try to run Word or
Excel I get a message that MSO97.dll is missing and I should re-install.

When I re-install, I still get the message that the wizard cannot find
evidence on the hard drive that there was a previous installation. So I
wonder if this is how MS dealt with people buying the upgrade without having
an earlier version of the product -- install everything except quietly leav
out one .dll so it uses up disk space but doesn't work.

Anyway, my original floppies for the version of Word that ran under Windows
3.0 are long gone, as are the floppies for the Office upgrade for Win95. Is
there any way I can re-create the evidence that I had an earlier version of
Office so that the upgrade version will install everything?

The qualifying product, and its associated disks/cd's, form part of the
licenses for the upgrade product.
Lose these and you no longer have the license, as mentioned in the bumph.
