How to just get a SOLID BAR in Project, no Patterns offer it.

Elizabeth

(one thing, I love Microsoft creates pop up blockers then 99% of their sites
require you to allow pop-ups!!)

Anyway, how do I simply get a solid bar?
Bar Format, or just right clicking BAR doesnt work. There are 11 "patterns"
and none are solid.
Gradient is the closest but its not SOLID. So at print time the bar is
semi-gray.

I got a project from someone else and it works on their machine, but on
mine, the bars do not look like his though I have a newly installed Project
2007.

WHy would Project 2007 not offer a SOLID bar as a choice?

Format/Bar Styles... The second choice under pattern is as solid as it will
get. It does appear slightly different in 2007, I see what you mean with
the slight gradient.

Hi Elizabeth,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

In Format/Bar... there is a completely black option in the Pattern
setting - try that.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

thanks for answering so fast, but you only pointed out to me what I already
said I did. I just dont see why they would remove solid option, do they not
think anyone ever prints a document from a Project? You get grayish bars that
are not clear and concise to read.

Thanks to both, but as I said I already did those options.. thats the
problem, gradient being the only option.. I want solid, and still have un
understanding as to why the MS Project developers would not consider this as
a desired option, when considering printing of such reports that one hands to
their boss that they want easy to read.

This forum answers "how" questions ... to learn "why" you will need to ask
Microsoft. No one here works for, or can speak for, Microsoft.

As for "How do I make a solid bar," well, the answer was provided -- that's
as solid as it gets in Project 2007. It may be possible to do with VBA, but I
don't think so. I know it is aggrivating to you that they made the change
especially since P2003 seemed to print quite nicely.

If your boss is unhappy with the printed format, you may want to downgrade
to Project 2003. As an alternative, you may want to try Kidasa Milestones
(www.kidasa.com). That program is a companion product to Project and makes
great eye candy from mpp data.

Hello Elizabeth,

Pardon me for jumping in.

Have you tried turning off the option "Bars and shapes in Gantt view in
3-D"? In quick testing disabling that option does show the more
"classic" look from earlier versions of Project.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Sorry -- should have noted that the option to turn off 3-D is on the
View tab in the Tools > Options command.

HEY!! That looks pretty good!!
I Hope Elizabeth likes it. I still see a slight gradient on my Vista/P2007
install but I think it will get her much closer to what she wants. My video
card is pretty good so I may be seeing more detail than most printers.

I hope you get the check mark....
