How to keep hyperlinks when creating a PDF file in word for mac

What version of OS X, What version of Office, What specific Office
application program, and What kind of hyperlinks are you using? Nobody can
offer any meaningful suggestions if you don't provide any meaningful
information.

I use Office for Mac 2004
I have OS X v 10.4
I am trying to convert a Word ducument
....What kind of hyperlinks...i don't know there was different kind! I
write a sentence then select the word i want then do add hyperlink and
write the internet adress i want. So that when i am in the word
document if i click on the word that has the link, a internet page will
open.

Word uses the built-in (into Mac OS X, that is) Print to PDF function that
generates some kind of screenshot of a document, but does not preserve its
internal structure. As you have noticed, one of the effects of this
simplified PDF creation process is the loss of hyperlinks.

However, if you use Adobe Reader to read your PDF documents, you will notice
that Adobe Reader automatically detects hyperlinks in PDFs and displays them
as such. Also, if you happen to use Pages 2, you can open your Word document
with that application and use Pages' Export function, which creates PDF
files with intact hyperlinks.

There's not much you can do about this for the time being, but it sure would
be a nice feature to have in Word.

Michel's pretty much summed it up, but just to clarify re hyperlinks -

They can be used to link to virtually *anything*, not just web addresses.
You also can hyperlink to locations within the same document (internal) as
well as to other Word documents, to other types of files (locally or
remote), as well as specific locations within those files (external). What
type of hyperlinking can help troubleshoot the problem.

The main point of my reply, however, was that anytime someone posts an
inquiry it is in their best interest to offer as much specific detail as
possible. Even the additional info you furnished in your 2nd post isn't
really complete & tells nothing about the Mac configuration. Just to
illustrate - not picking on you, personally - see the interjections below:

I use Office for Mac 2004
OK, but 11.0, 11.2, 11.2.5, 11.2.6?
I have OS X v 10.4
Yeh, but 10.4.0, 10.4.1, 10.4.2, 10.4.7?
I am trying to convert a Word ducument
Thank you - PowerPoint & Excel are also Office programs and each supports
hyperlinks.

This sort of specific information allows the regulars here to take your
posting more serioulsy & more immediately... they're not going to simply
offer up a dozen different "try this if that doesn't work try this or if
you're using a different combination here's another" solutions in response
to a posting in a *general* news group that says nothing more than "Help, my
hyperlinks don't work!" - It's like calling the doctor & saying "Doc, I
don't _feel good_ what should I do?".

All the volunteers who monitor these groups are more than willing to offer
any assistance they're able to provide, but they need something to work with
:)

Thanks, Michel! Didn't realize I could do that.

I did this, but Preview doesn't recognize the link, although it works in
Adobe Reader. Is that something I did, or Apple being ridiculous?

Never mind, user error. Found the cursor tool in Preview.

I do print, save as pdf, but it does not keep my hyperlinks...
Help!

If ypu have Pages, you can load the Word document into pages and print a
PDF from there which preserves the hyperlinks. You do _not_ need to
save the pages version after printing.
