How to keep WORD 2003 from running after exit? HELP

After I exit Word, winword is still running and using resources as shown in
task manager. How do I keep this from happening? I am going into task manager
and closing winword after I exit word. If I do not do this, my machine runs
really SLOW.

Any for sure fix for this problem?

If you are using Word as your email editor in Outlook, then Word
will run in the background as long as Outlook is open.
