How to know which stencil contains a shape returned from Search?

Peter

I'm new to Visio 2003. I use the Search for Shapes box to locate a shape.
Now, how can I find out which stencil contains the shape? The shape I find
has a weird name Database.33.

Thanks.

Hi Peter,

You can get Shape Search to display the results sorted by group, i.e.
stencil, through the Visio 2003 Tools > Options menu item. Go to the Shape
Search tab and set the "sort results" selection to "by group". The results
for subsequent searches should then be displayed in groups using the Stencil
name, i.e. "Annotations (US units)".

Hi Dick,

Thank you for the tip. Do you know what is the extension .33 after
Database? I also find another shape named Database.54. The number only
shows up if I use the Search box. If I just go to the corresponding stencils
directly, the name of the shapes will both be Database.

Thanks.

Hi Peter,

When you have both US and Metric content installed, as you are seeing there
are two of these Database shapes and other masters (one for each content
type) in a given stencil, and both are showing up in your Shape Search
results.

If you look at the master shortcut properties for the shape, you'll see the
number in the name, i.e. Name: Database.33. This is to make sure that these
two shapes for US and Metric are distinguished from each other, and the
number used in the master shortcut name (.33) is the location of the shape
within the given stencil - i.e. it's the 33rd shape in the stencil. I hope
this info is useful. thanks.

Hi Dick,

I don't think I have installed both US and Metric templates since I just
install the typical Visio Professional 2003 without going to add Program to
install additional components. I also thought about that number being the
position within the given stencil but I count the shapes based on the display
order in the stencil and the result does not match that extension number. My
understanding is that Audit Diagram Shapes is a stencil (I guess it is also
referred as template) which is under Business Process category and Database
is a master in the Audit Diagram Shapes stencil.

Thanks.
