How to link to a file in the same folder?

How do I link to a file in the same folder as a OneNote file? Simply
writing "file://some_file.doc" does not work, at least with OneNote
2007 SP1. When I click on the link, then I get the message "Unable to
open file file:///\\some_file.doc".

Anyone?

That's bad news.

Someone said that SP1 fixed this in a thread a week or two ago.

I'm applying SP1 over the weekend and was hoping relative links had
been fixed.

Yes, I recall reading that thread, and that's why I installed SP1.

Fortunately, there seems to be a work around. Specify
"file:some_file.doc" instead of "file://some_file.doc". Of course,
this is not helpful for people who already have many links of the type
"file://some_file.doc".

Please share your experience.

Let me start by saying I'm not totally literate when it comes to what all
these programs can do but I read your question and wonder if I'm confused.

I have linked things from one page to another within the same notebook and I
have linked things from (1) notebook to another within my onenotes.

Is this what you may be trying to do? I am confused by all the talk about
file:some_file.doc" instead of "file://some_file.doc". and SP1

We are talking about linking to external files which are not contained
in the notebook. Apparently ON2003 allowed this but ON2007 got rid of
the feature.

I suspect it is due to the fact that ON2007 uses cache files so would
make relative file paths meaningless.

Ok, that you for explaining that to me. Remember you are dealing with an
illiterate here but I have another question.
If you are talking about a file outside of onenotes, are you talking about a
file on the same computer such as a word or excel file/document?

I'm trying to learn here and at the same time see if I can figure out what
I'm doing. I have created links in my onenote notebooks that will take me
straight other file/documents on my computer and with a little extra effort
to specific sections of word and excel documents that I have on my computer.

Is that the type of external file you are refering to or are you talking
about external (not on your computer)

Yes. Links to files on the local PC.

Interesting. That caching mechanism is again causing trouble. I just
realized that it takes forever, when you have very large files in the
same directory as the notebook. Hampers Onenote's usability
considerably.

Why isn't there the possibility to just turn it *off*?
