How to list a personal Outlook Address Book before the GAL

M

Michael

Hello,

I have a user who would like to have their personal address book be listed
above the Global Address List (GAL) in Outlook 2003.

For example, when you create a new message and click the "To:" button it
opens the box to select or search a contact. By default, when you click the
drop down list the GAL is listed first and then at the very bottom, the users
"Contacts" address book is listed. Is there a way to switch it so the users
"Contacts" address book is shown first in the list and the GAL at the bottom?

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael

Click on the Address Book icon in the toolbar. Click on Tools > Options. You
can sort the address lists there.

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for your response. I have done that and it actually does something
other than what the user wants. For example, if you do the following steps.

1. Create a new email message
2. Click the To button
3. Click the drop down box that says "Show Names from the: "
4. By default the Global Address List is listed first.

The user wants "their" address book listed first in this list rather than
the GAL; however they do not want to "search" their address book first as
which the settings under "Tools | options" allow for. It is an odd request
and I have done it before but I can't remember how. I thought it had
something to do with the registry but I am not sure. :-(

For example, when I create a new mail message and I click the To button my
contact list appears for me first. Is that what you're trying to accomplish?
I only have to scroll through address lists if I want the GAL or my local
campus list. My contacts list appears first.

Hi Kathleen,

Not quite, for example, when you create your mail message and click the TO
button, if you click the drop down arrow under neith the "Show Names from
the:" it should expand out a list and at the top of the list do you have the
GAL and at the bottom do you have your personal address book listed?

I am actually needing to know how to change what is listed first in that
expanded list.

Thanks,
Michael
