How to make a default Excel Template

Processor: Intel

Due to the fact that I work with all Office Windows users, I would like to have my Mac Excel 2008 default to the 1900 date standard.

I found this helpful thread on the topic:
<http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Excel/3718>

And I have tried both respondents solutions, however, when I open Excel and check the properties, it is still set to the 1904 date standard.

How can I get Excel to use the new template that I have created which is set to the 1904 standard?

Thanks

Then you did not do something correctly. Did you make both a workbook and a
worksheet template? Did you name them correctly, use the correct file type,
and put them in the proper location? Check the instructions again. Also
verify with Excel Help. Test by putting something in Cell A1 so you can see
which template is being opened when you start Excel.

I did what Bob Jones outlined in the link I referenced, he says only to create a template, you're saying I need to create a regular xlsx file as well?

I'm pretty darned sure I followed what he said exactly, but that new temlate is not being used for new workbooks.

Did you make both a worksheet and a workbook template? Are they indeed
template files without any extension? Are you sure you had set the
calculation mode on the worksheet template?

Bob,

When you say make both a worksheet and workboook I'm not clear.

I opened Excel 2008, went into Prefs and unchecked the 1904 option, saved the file as a template first unchecking the append file name option.

And what happens when you do a file-new, or add a worksheet to a file? A
good way to test to see if the template is being properly accessed is to
make the template with some value in a cell. This should of course appear
when you make a new worksheet. If all is OK, you can then update the
template and remove the value.
