How to make flyout menus without abs positioning?

I understand Jim Buyen's warning about not using absolute (or relative!)
positioning. I used absolute positioning to make flyout menus, and was
relieved when it worked in IE and Netscape; but the IE for Mac came and bit
me!

Is there another way to make flyouts? Without using absolute positioning?
