How to make MS project record the date a task completes (Actual Finish
Date).

For example I have the following situation

As of Aug 5th
TASK A with a finish date of Aug 5th is 0% complete
Task does not start due to some a predecessor not completing in time

As of Aug 10th
TASK A with a finish date of Aug 5th is 100% complete. I want to make
sure that the "actual finish" date is reflected as Aug 10th.

Is it possible to track these task completion dates in project. Please
advise.

Certainly. If the predecessor finishes late, then updating it should delay
your task. Select View, Table; and select tracking. Drag the column titles
so that you have Task Name, Actual Start, Actual Duration Remaining Duration
in this sequence.

For each task enter the actual start date, then enter actual duration and
new remaining duration. This should produce what you want.

Remember to select Tools, Tracking, Save Baseline to save a baseline copy of
your schedule before you start tracking so that the Tracking Gantt Chart
shows you where you are now compared to where you said you would be.

You may also insert the "Actual Finish Date" column and enter a date in there.
