How to make objects appear at a particular place on a slide

I'm using PowerPoint vX on OS X Panther. I've seen people's presentations
(perhaps made on a PC...) where there's a slide with some objects, and then
they hit a button, and a new object (like an arrow) comes in and lands at a
predefined place (pointing to something specific, in the case fo the arrow).
I've been playing with the "custom animations" but I don't see any way to do
this. Can anyone tell me how I get a specific object or graphic to show up
(fly in or just appear) at a specific place on an existing slide when I hit
a key? Thanks!!

You're on the right track. You want to place the object where you want it
to end up and set the entrance animation effect to fly in. Let us know
if you need more help than that.
