How to make selfextracting file

I need help on how to put an excelfile into a program, which when started
saves the excelfile on drive and put a shortcut to the excelfile on the
desktop. Can anyone help.

the office developer tools include the packaging wizard that will do that.
otherwise you need a tool that creates a windows installer package like
installshield or wise. you can make a self extracting executable with the
full version of winzip, but i don't think it can make a shortcut.

There's an Open Source tool called FreeExtractor, which does exactly
that (http://freeextractor.sourceforge.net/): auto-extracting, placing a
shortcut on the desktop, etc....
