How to make two different page number systems in one doc?

In just one section of a large multi-section doc I need an auto-incrementing
sectional 'page' number in the header, ie,

Section D
Page 2 of 24

....but in the footer of that section I need an auto-incrementing page number
that continues to reflect the cumulative total number of pages in the entire
doc.

I.e., Page 16 of 162

If I format both as page numbers, they both adopt the same numbering scheme
because Word only knows how to run one page numbering system per doc.

What's a good workaround for this?

Turn on field codes (opt-F9) so that you can see what you are doing.

You can use a {Section} field to get the D, possibly. Depending on whether
you are using section breaks for anything else. Though not necessarily worth
the trouble.

[Something tricky, see below] of {SectionPages}

doc.

I.e., Page 16 of 162

{Page} of {NumPages}
