How to make untruncated Visio Straight Staircase go down vs. up?

When inserting the Straight Staircase stencil in Visio 2003, I can not figure
out how to get the staircase to change to a down staircase from the default
up staircase without truncating the staircase (hiding the lower stairs). How
does one fix this?

That is an oversight in the shape. To get around the issue, take a copy of
the stairs and modify it. Either remove the word "Up" or change it to "Down"

Once you drop the copy of the straight staircase on your drawing, select the
shape and then select the open group command from the end of the Edit menu.
It's the last one on the menu and may say somethin like "Open straight
starcase.3". Click on the word "Up" to select the text and either change it
to "Down" or delete it. Save this new shape for future use.
