How to mass delete old calendar appointments?

My Entourage seems to freeze at the same point every day, causing me to have to Force Quit often. Whenever it gets to the part where it syncs the calendar, it beachballs for eternity! I've left it beachballing while doing other stuff several times, and when I came back to the computer it was still going. I've tried rebuilding my database, but to no avail.

I've tried checking off the 'Delete non-recurring events' and set it to delete older than 3 months. It hasn't done anything, though, and all of the old appointments are still there.

I read on a blog somewhere that in 2004 there was a way to create a custom view that could include calendar items in a list form, making it very easy to delete. is there anything like this in 2008? Are there other options for deleting old calendar appointments?

Hi,

You can also try to purge the Exchange cache, but that's a different story.

Indeed! Same approach.
Create a custom view for all your Events (eg: event is in calendar
Exchange), sort the result table by date and delete all the old events.

You might want to archive you calendar items to an rge file before
deleting them. I suspect though you have a bigger problem. I don't
think you should be getting that spinning ball. How large is you Ent
DB. You can try Corentin's technique for deleting you past
appointments but if you keep getting the spinning ball and rebuild
doesn't work (often the case) then you'll need to start with a new
clean identity. In this case, you'd export all your data to an rge
file and import that into the new identity. There is one other option.
If this just started, do you have a backup before it started. That DB
is probably fine. You should actually check to the db to see if it is
running fine with the db utility.
