how to measure distance from one shape to another?

just starting with visio, really looking to understand how it could work for
outdoor soil testing, and mapping? wondering if there is any templates or
stencils out there?

Hi Digi,

There are some shapes that will help with your measuring.

Go to File > Shapes > Visio Extras and select one of the "Dimensioning
stencils"

These allow you to measure distances on a Visio page - even scaled pages
(ie: 1" = 1' - 0" and such)

I don't know of any templates/shapes for the subject you're interested in,
but it sounds like it lends itself toward some automation. Visio has a full
automation model, so you could create drawings that are derived from- or
linked to data that is stored elsewhere. Post again if this sounds like
something you need!
