How to mention hours in incomplete tasks.

Micheal

Hi,

Case 1:
-------

if the manager assign the task to the user with one day duration and 100%
assignment units . and user complete this task soon with in 3 hours . how he
will mention other 7 hours.

Case 2:
--------

If the manager assign the task to the user with the 2 days duration . but
the user still not complete that task after entering 2 days actual hours in
time sheet and the working of the user in that tasks is continue upto 3rd
days what he will do how he will mention his more hours.

means user is not completed the task in that duration in which he has
assigned.

what is the working of manager and user in EPM if the user is not compeleted
his task within provided duration.

regards

Micheal

Micheal --

Case 1: The resource enters 3 hours of Actual Work and sets the Remaining
Work to 0 hours. If you are using the % Work Complete method of tracking,
the system will not allow the team member to enter Actual Work, so you will
not get the information you seek.

Case 2: The resource enters 2 days of Actual Work and sets the Remaining
Work to 1 day. The project manager can see the Duration slippage by
inserting the Duration Variance column in any task view, such as the Gantt
Chart view.

Hope this helps.

Micheal:

Each of these situations is handled by adjusting remaining work in the
timesheet view.

If the resource has 2 days tasks which he has not completed in two days
until he has entered 2 days actual hours and the task now continue into
third day and the resource is now entering 3rd day actual hours what the
effect will be held.

and according to yours answer if the resource will adjust the remainning
work and if the resource want to do more work on the task then he will add
more remainning work on the web access time sheet .

what effect will be occur in this case whether duration will be change in
the time sheet of that task or when that task will be updated in the project
the duration will be change and increase in the project . and what effect
will show when the manager will print out the report from the project
professional whether there is show that the user delay his task from the
actual duration or work assigned to him.

and if the user do the task soon and enter remainning work to zero . then
what effect in the report of project professional that the user assigned 2
days task and complete in one day.

Micheal, all the answers were already given.
Please try to understand that the act of management is subject to the reality of the situation.
Reporting remaining work by resources is the most important data a manager can recieve.
The effects of those reports allow the manager to Replan what the course of future events will be. It is the equivalent to starting
the planning over every time a new set of data is collected.
Now amount of will of management can change the fact that a task requires a certain amount of effort to accomplish.
The duration of that effort can be shortened by using more resources, using more skilled resources, or adjusting the scope of the
task on the fly (ex. two coats of paint instead of three).

So...in both cases of reporting and being in denial of what was outlined above results in your original plan being "messed up" to
some degree. That recalculation OR mess is what is of value. Anything else is just a pretty picture, not management at all.

Micheal --

If the resource increases the Remaining Work estimate, then this will
increase the Duration of the task. Hope this helps.
