How to modify a style in an attached template

Carol

I have attached the Professional Report template to my
document. I now want to modify the Heading 2 style to
include italics. Should I click the Add to Template
check box? I do not want to change my Professional
Report template. But, if I don't click the box, the next
time I open my document the italics are no longer there.
Any suggestions?

Open the Professional Report template, click "File", "Save As", and call it
"My Professional Report". Then change the Styles assigned to it and
reattach this new template to your report.

You can change the style in the document alone (by not checking "Add to
template"), or you can create a new custom template as Bill suggests.

In the tools/templates and addin dialog ... UNclick the box that
says "Automatically update styles" right under where you see your
file name. That will let you make italics in the document and
keep the the template unchanged. Good for a 1-time variation.

If you want to make many with the italics, open the template,
change it, and save as a new named template.
