How to modify the default namespace?

Martin Eckart

Hi NG,

Does anyone know how to modify the default namespace "tempuri.org" and
replace by custom one in an existing .xsn file (meaning in all sub files
like manifext.xsf, template.xml, ...)?

Thank you very much,
Martin

You should be able to extract the form files and make these changes using notepad--though I don't know what side effects you might run into later.

Why do you need to change this? Is there a legitimate business reason, or just curious?

I did that. But than I do get error messages that my Web Service Calls do
not work anymore, so I assume that this is not the best way to do that...

It is a Security issue and the company I am working for wants me to change
that. Now that we have ~20 forms in production I need to find a way how to
best deal with that.

Any idea?

I'm not a security expert, so I don't understand how a namespace definition is considered a security issue. I wonder if they are going overboard on something that is not the issue they think it is. Maybe someone else can jump in here and either explain it to me, or back me up that it's not really an issue.

If all you did was change the string "tempuri.org" to "somethingelse" in every location it is present, then I would have assumed that it would work correctly. If not, then perhaps the WS is "expecting" that namespace definition. If so, then I don't know what more you can do unless there is some way to change the WS expectations.

Good luck!

Like Greg said, the namespace cannot be a security issue, unless it is being
used somehow/somewhere for authentication, authorization, or access control.
And if that is the case, I'd recommend reviewing your security design first
before trying to change it.
