How to onvert a pub file to PMD?

I need to convert a file created in Publisher 2003 to a PMD. PageMaker 7.0
has a converter utility that supposedly converts files created in Publisher
97-2000. I just tried it to convert a file created in Publisher 2003 and it
didn’t work. I got an error message “cannot convert documentâ€.

Someone on the PageMaker forum suggested printing the pub file to a pdf
printer. Can someone explain to me how I do this when I can’t even open the
pub file in Pagemaker? I’m posting this message here because the PageMaker
user forum seems to be frequented mostly by DTP folks and I’m already very
frustrated.

Please be as detailed as possible in your replies. It’s been a very long
day, and my brain (what’s left of it) is pretty fried.

Hoping to get some straight answers. Thanks.

To create the .pdf file you must open the .pub
file in Publisher. Then the following instructions
should be useful:

Try this...

Download and install the following free PDF Creator.

PrimoPDF
http://primopdf.com/

With your new program installed...open your project
in Publisher and go to...File / Print.

On your Print screen...open the drop window and
select PrimoPDF as your printer.

Click...OK...now you will see the PrimoPDF screen
and you can browse to a save folder.

When you click...OK..your .pdf file will be created
in your save folder.

The resulting .pdf file can be viewed on any computer
that has the free Adobe Reader installed.

I think you would have to contact PageMaker and ask them when they expect to
release their converter for Publisher 2003.

To print the PUB file to PDF you would need to be using Publisher, or find
someone who was prepared to do it for you.

Do you have Publisher 2003 yourself? If so save the document as a 2000 publication
and convert it.

Thank you John, James and Mary. I figured out that I can print my .pub
document directly to a pdf printer from MS Publisher. John, I didn't need to
download the PrimoPDF Creator because a pdf printer already existed on my
business network. However, I will download and use it on my desktop at home.

I was under the mistaken belief that I had to convert the document to a .pmd
document in order to save it as a .pdf. I now realize that there is no need
to convert the document to .pmd, since .pdf was my ultimate goal.

I don't create very fancy documents. The file I was working on was a
greeting card that had to be at the print shop by a deadline. I have used MS
Publisher for years to create flyers, labels, etc. I find it fun and easy.
However, working with PM is a mind-bender for me. My office staff uses PM
exclusively to create marketing materials and I hate working with it. I will
be publishing a newsletter in the very near future, and would appreciate
feedback as to whether there are any good reasons why I should consider
working with PM for that project? Or should I stick with what I know best?

Thanks again for your help.

talk to your printer... most of us have no issues with printing your .pub
files. he may have some specific guidelines he may wish for you to follow.
if making .pdfs is what he asks for and you want multi-color printing
done..find a printer that prints from publisher.
