how to open closed xls. files

W.xp. SAVED data onto usb 2 flash memory drive. Electrical crash.
Transferred data from usb.2 flash memory drive onto new computer. Shown on
'document 'screen as icon but will not open. How to recover data onto new
computer .New unit installed with windows XP
Novice user.

Do you have Microsoft Excel installed on the new computer (your message
is not very clear on this point as you only talk about having Windows
XP installed on it)?
