A high resolution, tag-based graphics format. .MDI files are only supported
by the Microsoft Office 2003 version (and later?) of Microsoft Office
Document Imaging. If you are going to share files with people who are using
Office Document Imaging 2002, or another document imaging program, save your
files in TIFF format for compatibility.

I have office 2007 home/student edition and I am unable to open any .mdi
extension files. I have tried everything, I thought that it was supposed to
be in Microsoft office--->office tools--->(then here there would be something
like "Microsoft digital imaging viewer" or whatever) but its not there and I
cannot open the file using any programs on my computer. Any other tips?

Hi Michael,

The MS Office Document Imaging features are still available in Office 2007, but they're not installed using the default setup. Use
the Microsoft Office choice in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel to add those features.
