How to open MS Excel 2000 version9 file from Windows XE folder

Cannot open any MS EXCEL 2000 version 9 file from Windows XE, even a newly c
created file. Have run detect and repair and same issue still exists. Since
running it,
have seen error message when trying to open any Excel file from any MS
folder, regardless of whether file is password protected or not.

"Cannot find file C:/Documents and settings/.........my folder/my
filename.xls" and only Excel application opens.

Once in MS Excel can open any Excel file from File menu. Any suggestions?

Open windows explorer, then navigate to a excel file. Right click on it and
select "Open With" then select Excel and be sure you select always open this
program.

Hi
Selected Open With and the Excel files are already defaulted to Microsoft
Excel for Windows. When you open the fie this way unfortunately the same
issue still exists.
