how to open Word 2003 doc in Word 2000

I created a Word document in 2003 and saved it to a CD. I then went to
another computer that only has Word 2000 in order to print the document and
when I opened the document it appeared as boxes. What can I do to be able to
open this document in Word 2000?

Charles,

I understand what you are saying. Thank goodness the document was saved to
the hard drive, the problem is that this was my daughters school project
(that was due today) that was saved to the CD and was unable to open on the
school computers which only have Word 2000. She should have been able to
have saved it to the school computer, but I guess she tried opening from the
CD and it came up all boxes. I guess when she gets home today, I will show
her how to save the document to a Word 2000 format.

Thx

It is not a matter of saving to a particular format, but to a particular
place. When in Word, do not read from a CD. Do not attempt to save to a CD.
Save and read with the hard drive. You can copy from the hard drive to a CD
and back to another hard drive, just not using Word to do it.

Note that in many operating systems when you copy from a CD to the hard
drive, the copy will include the "read-only" attribute. This can be changed
by right-clicking on the icon, choosing Properties, and unchecking
"read-only."
