There are things some of us like and dislike about the new OSX 10.5
Leopard Dock. One of the dislikes is it picks up and displays the icon
of the first item in the folder.
For example, if you drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder to the dock
the icon used will be the generic folder for the Additional Tools folder
and it does not look as good a we were used to seeing in OSX 10.4
(Tiger).
It is pretty easy to bring back the Office 2004 icon in Leopard. All you
have to do is open the Microsoft Office 2004 folder in the finder and go
to the Finder¹s File menu and click on New Folder. This will create a
new folder and you then need to rename the folder to ³/Office Icon² (do
not use the quotes) but note the leading /.
The second step is to open your Applications folder and do a Get info on
the Microsoft Office 2004 folder and click on (or highlight) the small
icon at the top and do a Cmd-C to copy the icon to your clipboard. The
open the Office folder and do a Get Info on the newly created ³/Office
Icon² folder and paste in the icon you just copied. Then from the
Applications folder drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder to the Dock.
Try it and see if you like it. The price (free) is right.
