How to plan resource vacations in Project Server 2007

Hi,

How can we insert the vacations of the human resources for the entire year?

Ideally we'd like them to be calendar exceptions like the Non-Working Administrative Time Categories are.

The problem we found in using the Administrative Time Categories is that the resources normally do not get to see the timesheets of the future and so there is no way (as akward as it would be) to submit their planned vacations through future timesheets for the entire year).

Our timesheets are weekly.

Thanks in adavnce,
Aristotelis.

I think your requirements are in conflict, my friend. :) If you want your
people to be able to submit planned vacation time in the future, then you
must make sure all future time periods are set to the Open setting. Users
cannot submit nonworking time for future time periods that are set to
Closed. Hope this helps.

Here's how we recommend our customer :
- Timesheet is to track unplanned activities. When you can't or don't
want to plan some tasks or activities but want to know when and how
much time was spanned on it.

Vacations can and often should be planned because they contribute to
get a realistic planning (because of resources availability).
So in this case 2 option :
Either you add them ad calendar exception : I don't like this because
it move other tasks without warning anyone. Not really visible.
Either you plan as 100%unit task in a vacation planning for example. I
often rather this because in multiple planning, you see if resource is
already taken by something else and sometimes vacations.
This still let you fill actual work on timesheet for unplanned
vacations (as small days...In France we have a lot...)
Hope this help you.
