How to prevent!!

P

Patrick

HI ALL!!

I just recently read the 'Ten Commandments of Access' and
stumble on something that I didn't know about preventing
users from going into the table view and accessing the
data and/or modifying-it... Is that possible!!

This means that my users could not enter data in
tables 'manually'. Only via forms...

Please, could someone explain How this can be achived!!

Thanks in advance for your help,
PAtrick

The simplest way is to hide the database window from them. Do this from
Tools>>Startup and uncheck the appropriate box. Now, all they have to do is
press F11 to see it again, but if your users don't know that....

....and if they do, uncheck the Use Special Access Keys box as well. That
will enable them to get to the tables onyl by holding down Shift when they
open the db.

If they are still doing it, you have a training issue on your hands. :)

To add to Kevin's last sentence: "If they are still doing it, you have a training issue on your
hands", I would say if they're still doing it then download Albert Kallal's By Pass Shift Key
Code sample at:
http://www.attcanada.net/~kallal.msn/msaccess/msaccess.html

If they are STILL doing it after that (ie. if they have a copy of the same code to reverse the
process), then perhaps you have a training issue on your hands and a chat with your supervisor is
in order. You can also implement Access security to help secure the AllowBypassKey, so that they
cannot easily reverse the process: http://www.mvps.org/access/general/gen0040.htm
