how to print a part of a document and printing the complete table of contents

Running Word 2002 under Windows2000 Pro, I want to print (to a PDF printer)
only the first 24 pages of a document. The first few pages are the table of
contents. If I delete the pages past page 24, the table of contents shows
errors beyond that point. When I select and print only the pages that I
want, the section and page breaks show up as text within the document.

I'd like to know how to have the full table of contents remain intact yet
print only the first 24 pages. Is there a way to "protect" the table of
contents and delete the pages beyond page 24 and save the document?

Thanks very much for your help & suggestions.

Might be better to solve the problem with the section and page breaks: these
shouldn't show up in your printout, whatever page range you select.

However, a couple of techniques you can use:

1. Make a copy of your document, select the TOC, and press CTRL-Shift-F9.
This converts fieldcodes (the TOC in this case) to plain text, so it won't
change if you delete pages. Note that this is a permanent change.

2. Print the whole thing to PDF, then open the document in Acrobat and
remove the pages you don't want.

Section and page breaks show up only if you print a selection; they will not
show up if you select a page range. To do this you need to include both page
and section numbers. See the "Print specific pages and sections" portion of
the "Print a document" Help topic.
