How to protect sheet, yet allow Auditing?‎

In Excel 2003 you can go to TOOLS > PROTECT, and obviously protect the sheet.

However when you do so, the formula auditing toolbar becomes ghosted. Is it
possible for it not to be ghosted ?

I note there are the tick boxes in the Protect dialog box, but none seem to
relate to Auditing.

Can someone please help?

The point of protecting the auditing functionality is so people can't see
your formulas, often the formulas that people have in sheets that need
protection are much more valuable than raw data.Allowing people to view all
of that would miss the point.

you can unlock the cells you want to audit and that should do it. this only
applies to the unlocked cells though.

Thanks for both your help.

Yes good point of course to proper intellectual property. Will also try the
unlocked cell thing - see if that's acceptable at work

Many thanks!
