how to put text before automatic numbering

Jesse

I'm using Office Word 2003 sp3. I want to have automatic numbering in my
Heading 1 and I also want to have text before this automatic numbering.

what I have:
1. This Section Title
2. That Section Title

what I want to have:
Section 1. This Section Title
Section 2. That Section Title

How can I add text before the automatic numbering?

If you also want the numbering to be Multi-Level (1., 1.1, 1.1.1, etc) then
the best thing to do is to create an autotext entry consisting of a 1 row, 2
column table with the word Section in column 1 and the Heading 1 in the
second column. Then you insert that autotext anytime you want to insert a
new Heading 1.

Why? A table is not needed for this type of formatting. The word Section can
be made part of the numbering, and the Level 1 numbering will be picked up
by Level 2 without the associated text.

While I cannot repeat the behaviour today, about a week ago when I was
trying to set up such a numbering system, I was not able to prevent the
lower levels from picking up the word "SECTION"
