How to read this date format?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to read this date format?
12/11/2009, which format is mm/dd/yyyy, but excel 2003 cannot able to
recognize it, when I apply the function FIND("/",H22,1), and it returns
#Value!, where H22 contains 12/11/2009. Does anyone have any suggestions on
how to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Eric

12/11/2009 is a valid date as is stored by excel as the number 40158. (Try
changing the format to General or number format). This is only displayed as
date format when you format to date. Read out this "must read" page from Chip
on how excel stores date and time

Someone here should be able to help; if you can elaborate what you are
trying to accomplish
