How to recover Microsoft Office 2003

My son's desktop got zapped by a virus and he lost MS Office 2003.
MS Office came on the computer from Office Depot. They day he needs
to buy another copy.

He has no idea of the Registration number.

Any way to recover withot buying a new copy?

OEM (preinstalled) software is up to the computer manufacturer to deal with.
And I would be gobsmacked if they could/would help.

If he owns the license, he shouldn't have to buy another copy--but he has to
have proof. Is there a recovery disk that came with the system?
