How to recover temporary visio file

C

coolthinking

From my workstation, I created a new Visio 2003 file and stored it on the
common drive (so not locally).
Before our backup system was able to archive the file, I wrongly deleted the
..vsd file. I would like having back this file.
As far I understand Microsoft Visio, the information must be stored on
temporary files on my local drive.
However, where are those temporary files and how to retrieve the data from
them?

Any help is welcome. Regards,

I think you're out of luck. The temporary file is created only during the
editting session. When the drawing is closed, the temporary file goes away.
Typically, the file is named something like "~$$Filename.~vsd", and is in the
directory where the original file was opened.

My recommendation is get a file recovery program that can restore deleted
files. Deleted files still remain on the drive and usually are recoverable.
This becomes less likely if there are a lot of new files being added to the
disk, in which case, the deleted files will eventually get clobbered.
