How to refresh the auto-numbering fields......

Hi,

I am using word 2003 in which I am auto numbering certain
figures or tables inside the word document.
So if i insert a new figure/table at any place, the Word
automatically gives it a caption and numbering based upon
the Heading and its position in the heading. So this goes
like -
Figure 1-1, Figure 1-2, Figure 1-3 and so on.
The problem starts when I remove any of the figure, the
Word does not remove the auto-entered caption and number.
So the numbering is not correct.

Advise, how can one achieve this?

Thx.
Sandeep

Are you tracking changes? If so, you will need to accept the changes before
the new numbering will take effect.

Hi,

I have not even touched the track changes. This is simply
inserting some figures and then removing one. On
insertion, Word takes care of giving it caption and
numbering and while removing, it does not. Its that way.
Can there be so way out??

Thx
Sandeep

I misread your initial question. I thought you meant that the captions
weren't renumbering when you removed one. Just because you have captions
inserted automatically, that doesn't mean they're removed automatically. You
must delete them manually when you delete the figure.
