How to release 'multiple select' in visio?

My pointer in the visio diagram is stuck in the 'multiple select' mode, even
when the icon in the toolbar indicates 'area select'. How can I reset it
properly?

Hi Catherine,

Hmm, I know that sometimes laptops have a special feature to make general
selecting easier. For instance, if you tap lightly on the
mouse-stick-eraserhead thing, then it sets the mouse into a mouse-down mode,
even though you aren't holding the mouse down. This sounds like what's
happening to you.

Or it might be an accessibility setting (ie: for disabled people).

I'd check your mouse or accessibility settings for starters.
