how to remove a category, from multiple contacts

i have eliminated a category. i no longer want to see a list of contacts
with that category when in category view. i know i can delete the category
from the master list. i dont see how to remove it from all contacts?

Removing a category from the master list only removes it from that list. It does not affect items marked with that category. To remove a category from the items, select all the items in that category (use the By Category view), then right-click and choose Categories. Clear the check box for that category.
