How to remove duplicate tasks assignments with different dates in

T

TH2005

Some of my project resources complaining that they can see multiple copies of
the same tasks with different dates. Only one of them is correct. They are
asking me to remove duplicate incorrect tasks assignemnts from their view.
It might have happened when the database went out of sync due to recent
changes I made in the project redistributing some of the tasks to new
resources and the project server failed to remove the tasks already published
from those resources who are not assigned any more. How can I remove those
duplicates task assignments?

It sounds as though you didn't close out the assignments correctly before
removing the resources from the tasks. To rectify this, you need to save the
affected projects as mpp files, delete them from the server, and import them
back to the server and use the Publish > Republish feature selecting to
overwrite the actual work in Project Server. If you're using managed time
periods, you'll need to disable this feature before performing the above
steps.

Thanks Gary. I'll follow the steps you mentioned in your reply to rectify the
issue. I'd also like to know how do I close out an assignemnt before removing
the resource. This will I won't make the same mistakes.

Set remaining work to zero
Republish the assignment
Delete the resource from the task
Republish the assignment

This procedure should put an X next to the resource assignment that was
deleted. Another cause for duplicate assignments is publishing from both a
sub-project and master project containing the subproject. Could that explain
all or part of your problem?
