How to remove "hard returns" used instead of double spacing.

Received txt file that appears double spaced. Instead - Word inserted hard
returns when converting to .doc. Any way to quickly remove all of the
"empty" hard returns w/o impacting necessary returns?

In the Edit > Replace dialog, put

^p^p

in the Find What box, and put

^p

in the Replace With box. Then click the Replace All button.
