How to remove Outlook from memory?

When I exit Outlook, it remains in the memory. This causes problems because
when the computer sleeps or hibernates, next time I start Outlook, I get the
message that the file was closed improperly and is being checked.

I could not find a way to remove Outlook from memory when I exit. This is
what I want.
