How to remove the business fax that shows up when using contacts?

When sending an e-mail, using contacts, selecting the to..button. E-mail
addresses and business fax shows up in the contacts. How can I remove the
business fax without actually removing it from the contact information? You
cannot select the whole contact list or you will be e-mailing to fax numbers
also. I am using outlook 2000.

Outlook considers fax numbers to be valid electronic addresses, since there
are many client- and server-based components that can use such addresses.

One method to hide fax numbers from the address book is to prefix the fax
number with one or more letters (maybe B for business fax, H for home, O for
other). If the fax number begins with a letter, Outlook won't show it in the
address book.

There are a couple of utilities that can help you hide fax numbers from the
address book. See http://www.rsoutlook.com/us/rshifa.htm and
http://www.sperrysoftware.com/Outlook_Solutions.htm (Hide Fax Numbers).

Another way to avoid having fax numbers appear in the address book is
simply not to enter data in the fax fields. Put fax numbers in some other
(non-phone) fields.

I was searching for an answer to the exact question Patty asked.

This was definitely NOT the answer I was hoping for.

Consider this a product suggestion: don't display or even consider fax
numbers when composing mail messages. Note the use of the term "mail". If I
wanted to address it to a fax number, I'd be creating a FAX message. It'd be
easy enough to put a check box somewhere to enable/disable the feature.

Design intent, eh? Great.

Don't preach to the choir here. Cast your vote where it counts.
You can send Outlook feature requests a number of ways, all listed here:

Hi,
I asked about the same issue as Patty a couple years ago and used the Sperry
solution with great sucess. Now I have Outlook 2003 SP-1, I installed the
Sperry software which inserted "Fax" in front of all the fax numbers, but the
fax numbers (and secondary and tertiary email addresses) continue showing,
but only for certian addresses. These addresses are those I have added an
asterik in front of (I've done this for years) to get them to the beginning
of the list - obvuiously my most used addresses.

I'm guessing there's something in O-2003 that reads the asterik as a command
of some sort. Any idea about this? Is there an approved way to put Zeek
Zolox's name at the top of my Address list without having all the Faxes and
Email2's and Email3's show up?

Thanks.
Larry
