How to remove write protection from photos

On downloading photos to a memory stick, I have some photos that show they
are write protected or I get another message quoting Cannot carry out request
as I/O Device error... This I find very strange as I've previously downloaded
the same before without this problem. Tried a restore which did not help.
Would appreciate some feedback on how to retify, otherwise I'll have to get a
tech in.

If they're pictures from a local source, like your camera, right click on
the photo and uncheck read only. If you downloaded them from the web they
may be protected by the publisher, in which case you're SOL.
