How to replace the resources for task with progress?

Hi, I am using PS2007+PWA.

We have assignments already with progress which the resource needs to be
replaced. How can I replace one of existing resources by new one but doesn't
impact the current progress?

Thanks in advance,

JJin

The easiest way is to go to the Resource Usage view, and simply drag the
task in question to the new resource.

That will keep historical data, and transfer the remainder to the new resource.

Hi Andrew,

Are you sure? I've never seen this and can't make it work.
I do it by showing the Assign Resources Form, click the resoruce, replace,
the new resource, OK.
That indeed replaces remaining work but not actual work.

Hope this helps,

Sure it works. Here's how to recreate it:

1) In the Resource Sheet, create two resources: Bob and Sam
2) Create one task, make it a duration of 10d, assign it to Bob.
3) Set it to 50% complete.
4) In the Resource Usage View, grab the task under Bob, and you can drag
it under Sam.

Perhaps this functionality has been disabled in the Belgian release.....? :)

It works, but I consider it as a bad practice.
In 2003 (and I'm not sure about 2007), if you drag an assignment without actual work to a new resource, the UID is also transferred, while a new assignment UID should have been created. This can be important in case you have reports or customizations that rely on the assignment UID.

So I prefer the method Jan has described, rather than using drag and drop.

The only correct way to do this is to use the Assign Resources tool. This is
the only tool that does a replace for remaining work ONLY. This preserves
the correct actual work record. Any other method you use will reassign all
actual work to the new resource.
