How to request a read receipt

I use Outlook 2000 currently. I have received several E-mails in the past
from senders who, when I read them, get a pop-up screen prompt that states
the following: Microsoft Outlook, [name of sender] has requested a read
receipt to be sent when message '[name of message in SUBJECT field]' has been
read. Do you want to send a receipt?
I am a home user, and do not use Microsoft Exchange, but this prompt still
comes up; I have to answer it before the Outlook allows me to do anything
else. How do I set up an E-mail that I'm sending to request "a read receipt
"? I'm also going to upgrade directly to Office 2007 anon. Thank you. Ben

While composing the mail item go to the View menu > Options command and
select the receipt options.

When composing the message, click View>Options and check the box labeled
"Request a read receipt for this message".

I checked this. On My MS Outlook 2000, whether I go to the main screen, or
open up a new window to create an E-mail: when going to VIEW, there is no
OPTIONS option; ...and when I go to TOOLS, there is an OPTIONS option, but
then no RECEIPT options found. Please advise me. Thank you. Ben

Is there a Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Tracking Options? I don't have OL
2000 with which to check.

Yes; thank you. I found this. However, it's under
TOOLS\OPTIONS\PREFERENCES\e-MAIL OPTIONS\TRACHING OPTIONS at the main Outlook
screen, not while composing an E-mail. Can you believe that there is no
where that I can find either in MS OL Help or MS KB about doing this? Now,
what you instructed applies to all sent messages; what I wanted to know
specifically is how to send a specific message requesting a receipt, without
applying this to all my send E-mails. Other than checking this feature,
sending the specific E-mail, and then unchecking it, is there any other way
to do this; thank you. Ben

I discovered the answer: In Outlook, when you create a new Message, click on
the Options button. You can set the request for a read receipt there. The
Options button is not under the View menu item, it is a button on the email.
I could not find anything either in the Help menu of MS OL or on the MS KB
about this. Thank you. Ben

I don't have OL 2000 to look, but open a new message window and look for a
Preferences menu item, most likely in the File or Tools menu. I can't
imagine that there's isn't a per-message option to request a read receipt.
