How to restore downloaded messages back on the server?

Hi,
this morning when I opened Entourage my account was gone for some
mysterious reason and I had to set up the account again from scratch.

I mistakenly chose POP instead of IMAP as incoming server, and then
all my 1500+ email messages were downloaded from the server without
leaving any copy there. In other words, my inbox at the server is now
empty and I can only access all my messages from this particular
computer. This is not what I meant to do! I need to be able to access
my messages from other computers as well, and so IMAP was the thing I
meant to choose when I accidetally set it up for POP.

Hence my question: how can I restore all the messages that now exist
solely in my Entourage inbox to the server?

(I tried to check the POP "leave copy on server" option in the
options, but it didn't do any good as the messages are already
downloaded. I am sure it will work for future messages, but what I
need is to restore the old ones.)

I tried to create a new IMAP account and that worked well, but
obviously there are no messages on the server anylonger that it can
receive...

Help appreciated!

This is easy. From your description, you've got the POP account set-up and
the IMAP account set up.

(Just to be on the safe side, go to the "Accounts" box for that POP account
and uncheck "Include this account in my 'Send and Receive All' schedule" ...
you don't want to accidentally undo what you are about to do.)

Now just highlight about 200 of the messages you want to move from the POP
account and click-hold & drag them into the corresponding folder of your
IMAP account (in theory, you can drag them all at one time, but my
experience is that Entourage (or my mail server) likes to deal with smaller
numbers of messages when it is moving messages -- your experience may be
different). Repeat with the next batch of 200 when that batch has been
successfully moved.

I've found that click-hold and drag is (for whatever reason) a better way to
move the messages than using the "Move" icon on the toolbar -- I've had that
muck things up by not properly updating the destination folder list after
the move so it adds the extra step of having to refresh the list.

You can do this with all of your folders (including the Sent mail folder).

Hi again and thank you so much for quick and easy response!

I tried it and it works fine, hurray and thank you again.

However, all the messages that I moved to my IMAP account (by click-
hold and drag) is listed in the Entourage inbox as received today, and
not with their original dates. In the web-based inbox on the server,
in contrast, the messages are there with their original dates in
place. So I guess there's an easy way to fix this problem too? But
how?

Thanks

That's typical IMAP behavior. Just sort by "sent" instead of "received".
