Jason I recently went through the very same exercise as what you
describe (I have one server that hosts MS Project Server 2003, SQL
Server 2000, Windows Server 2003 and WSS). What I found in the MS
Project Disaster and Recovery guide related to this topic is the
limitation that you must restore to a like named machine. I had hopes
that I could have two servers of different names with the same software
installed and backup the current data and restore to the other. That
does not work. What I wound up doing was following the backup and
restore procedures as outlined in the manual, storing the backups on a
network store, then taking the source machine offline, and bringing the
target server online, then performing the restore. After a bit of
fumbling (my own mistakes with authorizations etc.), I found that the
target host worked like a charm. The MS Project 2003 Disaster Recovery
guide is available on the Microsoft support web site along with the
other Project Manuals.
