If you realize that's happened before you close the document, you can press
Ctrl+Z (the Undo command) until all the changes are removed. Then save again
to put the restored document back in place on the disk.
Once the document is closed, though, if you don't have a backup of the
original, it cannot be retrieved. If you have a printed copy, you may be
able to scan it and use an OCR program to turn that into a Word document.
