how to retrieve figures fro word document

Hi,
I have some figures embedded in a word document. I want to
retrieve these figures and save them in TIFF format (the original
format of figures is unknown). I could use microsoft paint to do the
same but it screws up the quality of the picture. Is there a better
tool to do this?
