Once a file has been saved onto itself the original image file is
essentially gone forever. When I am editing photos, documents, etc. where I
want to keep the original, the first thing I do after opening it is to do a
File, Save As with a new name. That way every time I save in the future
editing I save to the new file and keep the original.
The only way to get back to the original is to have it saved somewhere else
also (on a backup or still on the memory card in the camera.) If not, you
are out of luck.
