How to "return" in a merged cell.

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Can anyone tell me how to "return" in a merged cell? I'm trying to use a block of cells instead of a text box. For whatever reason, a text box will not hold format information after a save. Anyway, with a merged cell, if I hit "return" at the end of a line, it jumps down to the next cell instead of letting me continue in the same cell. Any ideas?

Press Option and CMD at the end of the 1st line and it will allow you to add more text on the next line within the merged cell.

You "may" have to extend the row size to see it though.

This didn't work for me, any idea why? (I'm a new Mac user, so maybe you just have to restate your instructions!) Thanks!

Well, perhaps because Alan's reply was not 'complete' :) It's necessary to
use Option+Command while you press the return key in order to create the
line break. If that isn't the explanation then I would imagine that it's
just one of dozens of improper behaviors one should expect when dealing with
merged cells. They should be avoided at all cost & will most likely render
the workbook unusable at some point.
