How to revert to previous screen settings on a widescreen laptop?

Birgen

I have been hooking up my widescreen laptop to a projector for power point
presentations. Once connected to the projector, my computer automatically
"stretches" the screen so it fits correctly onto the projection screen in at
the front of the room. This is great. The problem is that after
disconnecting from the projector, my widescreen laptop does not revert back
to the original screen settings. The font and all images remain large with a
"stretched" appearance. I have tried adjusting the screen resolution (under
"Display">"Settings") but end up with a black screen. Any suggestions?

You are in the right neighborhood. It is complicated, because of all the
options, but fairly simplistic in principal.

You want to look on your laptop keys to identify which is the screen key --
the one that toggles between the video output (in other words, which output
gets the screen). Usually this key will have a small screen icon or an oval
with lines on both sides of it. Press and hold the Function key (usually
blue text) and then press this screen key a couple of times or until you get
any image on your laptop screen.

Now, go to Display Settings and set the following.
Screen 2 => uncheck attached, if it is checked
Resolution => Try 1280 x 800 and click on Apply to see if this is the
correct resolution for your monitor. If it isn't try others until you get
to the one that looks right. Remember this number.

Post back if this clears up the problem, or even if it doesn't.
